Type of lecture: Powerpoint-presentation with demonstration material and
practical exercises. Printouts will be made available to all participants free of cost. Due to the limited number
of instruments that we can supply the number of participants should not exceed 12 persons. In case of more
participants at least some instruments must be provided by the participants or the
organizer.
Price: € 500 plus VAT and possible costs for accomodation and travel as
well as possible rental fees for beamer and screen if these cannot be provided by the organizer.

How to handle sensitive gemstones
The lecture explains which precautions have to be taken when working with gemstones and provides answers to questions like:
- Can I leave this stone in the setting during soldering?
- Can I leave this stone in the setting during electroplating?
- Can I clean this stone ultrasonically?
- Is this stone sensitive to acids or brine?
- Is this stone particularly brittle and difficult to set?

to
The lecture concentrates on quality grading of coloured gems. It emphasises
problems (replacements of gems or expansion of an existing piece of jewellery to a set) arising from the
non-availability of certain colours and sizes and presents counter-strategies.
